With the city now eligible for up to $572 million in funding, the estimated construction cost per home may drop by as much as $100,400\u2014a significant difference when you\u2019re making such an important investment. More than 31,000 new homes could be unlocked across Hamilton thanks to these changes, opening the door for buyers and sellers alike. There\u2019s also potential for much-needed upgrades to our water and wastewater treatment plant, a pumping station, and improvements to key roads like Rymal. One planned redevelopment on Rymal Road East, with 812 units, could benefit from these lower charges, and the proposed road widening may help construction move ahead. Of course, all of this depends on government agreements and project approvals, and while the 812-unit project wouldn\u2019t receive infrastructure funding, the shift in policy signals a commitment to opening up new possibilities for homeownership in Hamilton.
